Grand Final a chance for Perth to shine

A Western Australian sporting windfall to rival Fremantle’s hosting of the America’s Cup in 1987, Nu Wealth Managing Director Daniel McQuillan said today’s AFL Grand Final at Optus Stadium represented an opportunity to showcase Perth’s residential and lifestyle opportunities to the rest of Australia.

“For too long, Perth has been viewed by people on the east coast of Australia as a ‘Cinderella’ city, even though it has more than two million residents and one of the best levels of social and economic infrastructure in the nation,” he said.

“The fact the AFL Grand Final will be held in Perth for the first time will allow millions of people on the east coast of Australia to focus their attention on the magnificent lifestyle that our city has to offer.”

Mr McQuillan said major sporting events helped elicit interest in the cities they were hosted in and, with Perth’s current freedoms on full show, many would be tempted to delve deeper.

“This will particularly be the case for residents in major capital cities such as Sydney,” he said. “Property owners can now buy two houses in Perth for the price of one in Sydney.

“And these homes in Perth are constructed to a high quality and offer fantastic value for money, considering the unrivalled lifestyle Perth offers.

“Perth ranks as one of the most affordable major capital cities in Australia to buy a home, where prime riverside and oceanside real estate can be purchased at a fraction of the cost compared to other areas of Australia.

“This affordability factor is underlined by the fact Perth property price growth over the past year has lagged behind other capital cities, still making it a buyers’ market.”

Mr McQuillan said the booming resources sector was looking to change this, however.

“Pressure on prices is highlighted by a dramatic fall in the number of properties listed for sale over the past two years, with just over 8000 properties now for sale,” he said.

“Real estate agents throughout the city are now reporting record sale prices being achieved and I believe the AFL Grand Final will only turbo-charge this trend once millions of people start to focus their minds on the city.”
